Snow Tubing at Snoqualmie Summit

Snow Tubing at Snoqualmie Summit

What kid doesn’t love some time in the snow?! You know what’s even better? When you can slide down it super fast. At least, my boy’s opinion…and frankly, I love myself a good thrill down the hill as well. It makes for a fantastic family outing.

In the past, we’ve gone to Hyak for sledding. Here’s my post about our adventures there. It’s a great option if you’re looking to do something a bit more frugally. This time, we went for the more premium experience at the Summit at Snoqualmie.

If you follow me on Instagram, you already got some inside to our tubing adventures. Here’s the highlight for your viewing pleasure. However, you might not be an Instagramer, and that’s cool. Let’s talk about it here on the blog.

The 411 on Tacoma Playgrounds

The 411 on Tacoma Playgrounds

Playgrounds! Every parent’s go-to when we’re not sure what to do. Nine times out of ten your kids will enjoy it. Not to mention, a fabulous way to get the wiggles out and promote a good nap time or bedtime. But we all know some playgrounds are superior to other playgrounds. Parents have preferences. Kids have preferences. Luckily, there is no shortage of playgrounds in the area, so we always have a somewhere to go.

Someday I hope to have a post about each park on this list with an in-depth look at what’s there and tons of photos. Until then, I thought I’d give the quick 411 on each park (Does anyone really use 411 anymore? Did that just age me?).

If I missed something that you think is important to acknowledge, please write a comment. I will be trying to keep this post current, so I’ll make periodic updates to it and can include anything you guys want added.

Lastly, we live in North Tacoma with a 2-year-old and 5-year-old, so some of these parks we frequent more because they are just closer to home and better for my kids ages. So all that said, let’s dig in.

A Morning with Alpacas

A Morning with Alpacas

Fact: Alpacas are not llamas.

They are similar indeed, but not the same. Differences between the two animals include the face, size, ears, hair, and even personality. But don’t go envisioning Emperor Kuzco when you head to Firwood Farms. Well, okay, to me they looked about the same, but I’m not a llama and alpaca expert.

A main difference between them is their hair actually. Alpacas have a much finer fiber than the llamas hence the loveliness of alpacas made clothes and accessories.

Park Love: Kandle Park

Park Love: Kandle Park

Wow, it’s been a long time since I did a park review. I’m not sure why. Parks are our thing. It’s what we do…all the time. What should we do? Hmm, let me think…go to a park! Most of the parks we go to are Tacoma Metro Parks and they re-opened a few weeks ago. Yay! But with precautions, of course. If you check their website, it lists the following precautions: “Capacity is limited to 5 users at a time. Face coverings required unless able to maintain a distance of at least six feet from others outside your household.”

In our experience so far, the playgrounds have been pretty empty. I’ve also found they are less crowded the earlier you go. Mid-day is prime park time, so you might try to avoid going at that time if you can.

But let’s just talk about playgrounds and parks and not coronavirus stuff. Cool? So, Kandle Park is one of the larger parks near our house, and we enjoy our visits there. I shared it on my Instagram stories a few weeks ago, and some folks didn’t recognize it, which sparked me to write this post. Let’s talk about Kandle Park, shall we?

(Psst: and if you’re digging this park post, you might visit my Puget Park and Tot Lot posts.)

Park Love: Puget Park in Proctor

Park Love: Puget Park in Proctor

The first day of summer is June 21st. That's not too far away! Plus, we've been lucky with some summer-like weather already. We've already started adding the playground back into our daily routine (not that it was totally out, but the terrible winter weather made it less appealing). One of my favorite parks is Puget Park in the Proctor area. Maybe it's because it's close to our home, but there are some other great reasons as well.

Park Love: Tot Lot in Fircrest

Park Love: Tot Lot in Fircrest

he sun is out and spring is just around the corner. I can't wait. We all can't wait. Three cheers...

Hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!

More sun means more park. And we love the park. The park is great for spending time outside with little ones. Don't know what to do? The park is the answer. Last spring/summer we would find ourselves at the park twice a day sometimes. Parks are a lifesaver, I tell you. And when you find a good park...now that's magical.

One of our favorite parks is the Tot Lot. I feel like this is a lesser known park, over in Fircrest. I almost hestiate to share it because I don't want it to get crowded. But I'm here for you, friends, and so I shall share this park.
