Rose are Red: It's Valentine's Day Date Night
/Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
You need a date night,
It's Valentine's Day, lucky you!
Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse for going out for a date night. As a parent, I know getting a babysitter, making reservations, and leaving the house can be tough. Let me make this easier for you and break these challenges down.
First: Get a Babysitter
This is the biggest challenge, right? Here are a few suggestions for finding a babysitter:
Parents Night Out. Many places offer these evenings, especially around Valentine's Day. Metro Parks, YMCA, and other programs offer these “night out” events.
Kids Night Out – Pal Palooza. Friday, 2/16; 6-9 pm at STAR Center. $30 per child.
YMCA Kids Night Out. 2/10 5:30-1pm, Morgan Family YMCA
Kids Programs. Snapology, Brickz 4 Kidz, or the Pod Works / Co Lab. Watch their Facebook and Instagram to get the latest on workshops and offerings.
Zenith Valentine’s Open GYM: February 17, 5-8pm
Parent Trade. If you have friends with kids, you could trade babysitting on different nights. One night, you watch their kids, and another night, they watch yours.
Ask Locally. I found our babysitter on a local FaceBook group, V253 Recommends. You can also check out the Loggers at the University of Puget Sound. Your church or school communities might have some advice, too. The Pod Family, a co-working and kid center, is another great resource in Proctor.
Second: Make a Reservation
There are some amazing restaurants in Tacoma. Here is a list of some favorites in different areas of Tacoma:
North End: Macaluso's Italian, Crudo and Cotto, Cactus, and Blind Pig
Downtown: Wooden City, En Rama, Cuerno Bravo, and Over The Moon Cafe
6th Ave: Field Bar, Asado, The Table, and State Street
A Few More: Indo Street Eatery, Bar Rosa, Marzano, Primo Grill, Le Sel Bistro
Third: Leaving the House
I take the time to type up a few notes for our babysitter and save them to my computer. Then, I tweak it each visit, if needed, and print it out. Next, be sure you have cash for the babysitter, food for everyone, pajamas laid out, and blinds closed...and you're done! Give the kiddos a quick hug, and GO!
Whew! You did it. Have a nice evening out, even if it's not exactly on Valentine's Day; be sure to get an evening to celebrate this February. And remember: taking the time to connect with your significant other is worth it!
