A Morning with Alpacas
/Fact: Alpacas are not llamas.
They are similar indeed, but not the same. Differences between the two animals include the face, size, ears, hair, and even personality. But don’t go envisioning Emperor Kuzco when you head to Firwood Farms. Well, okay, to me they looked about the same, but I’m not a llama and alpaca expert.
A main difference between them is their hair actually. Alpacas have a much finer fiber than the llamas hence the loveliness of alpacas made clothes and accessories.
Visiting the Farm.
That’s good and all, but the kids just want to pet them. Luckily, at Firwood you can totally pet and feed the alpacas. Greg and Leanna Stidham at Firwood Farms are great and accommodating to families coming to visit with kids. Our boys had a blast! And good news for parents…this not a far drive from Tacoma. They are just out in Puyallup Valley.
During our visit, we got to talk to Leanna who graciously told us all about their alpacas, their names, and anything else you might want to know. She got us food to feed them, too. The alpacas are friendly (see them coming to us when we arrived) and funny to have nibble out of your hand (see my video of them eating here!). There were also chickens that she gave us food to feed as well. We stayed about 45 minutes including some fun time in the gift shop.
All they ask is that you make a donation or buy something in their gift shop. I would suggest you contact them before going so you can setup a date and time. Their email and phone is on the Firwood Farms website.
Now, don’t tell me you have nothing to do this weekend, wink wink. Go meet Cookies ’n Cream, Bella, Bandit, Coco and the rest of the crew.
